Week 4 :: Of Cats and Men

Street Art in the Raval, Barcelona. Ricoh GR, processed to Black and White in Capture One Pro 9.

Another difficult week for photography, so just a few snapshots of street art from around the Raval and also an attempt at motion blur images with the GR. The latter turns out to be much harder than with the film cameras, partly because the Ricoh is so much lighter and partly because of the display blackout while tracking (maybe an external optical finder would work). Unfortunately, still no more film images this week as again the ongoing problems here are continuing to drain huge amounts of time and creative photographic energy. It is […]

Week 2 :: Bland

Organic - architecture at the Ciutat de la Justicia, Barcelona

Five somewhat diverse images taken with the Ricoh GR in Barcelona. The most interesting photographs from the week again can not yet be published, so these are somewhat (deliberately) bland – although two images have been chosen to send a decidedly un-bland message to certain people. I still can not quite believe that I am leading with a photograph of football, although perhaps it is good to have managed a whole week without an attempt to destroy the camera… These were processed from RAW using Capture One 9.0.2, which remains an exercise in […]

Parc del Clot

Football players, Parc del Clot, Barcelona

Footballing (?) at the Parc del Clot, Barcelona. The park is built within to the remains of an old railway workshop – the railways in this area are now almost entirely now underground and any service areas have long since moved away from the centre of the city. Lubitel 166 with Ilford Delta 100 in HC110.

Cathedrals

The Design Museum, Barcelona.

Three images of the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona. Still very unsure if this is inspired or terrifying architecture, although all I can think of when I see its military grey straight walls is all those 70’s dystopian science-fiction futures. All images shot on HP5+ with the Minolta XDs and 24mm lens, for a change of perspective.

Vanishing Point

Vanishing Point: Tramlines and Trees, Barcelona. Leica M7 with Zeiss ZM 2/35 and Ilford HP5+

Tram lines alongside the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. I am sticking with simpler, static subjects until I get the hang of the 35mm framing and camera handling – so the straight railway tracks seem more than appropriate. Leica M7, Zeiss  ZM 2/35 Biogon, Ilford HP5+.

High Art

Hotel Arts & Casino, Barcelona. Leica M7, Zeiss 2/35, Ilford HP5+

The Hotel Arts and casino at Port Olimpic, Barcelona. A suite in this inviting looking tower can cost up to 12000 euros per night, so if you are planning to stay for some time a cheaper option might simply be to buy a flat in Barceloneta. This was taken with Ilford HP5+, which to my eye appears to have both substantially nicer grain than XP2 and also higher resolution. I think that the grain’s texture is an advantage here, adding a nice 1960’s inner-city council housing vibe to the image of the luxury […]
