Cultures clashing on Carrer de Santa Anna, Barcelona.
Cultures clashing on Carrer de Santa Anna, Barcelona.
Two children playing, Barcelona.
Three 50mm street images, again taken with the Canon 5D Mark III and 50L in Barcelona.
Someone taking out one of the city hire-bikes, Barcelona. Taken with a full-frame DSLR and 50mm lens. This shows clearly the difference between images taken with the smaller cameras and those take with a large DSLR. The subject is looking away, giving time to move in to position to get the composition, aim the camera and focus. The slower photographic process usually results in a much better composed picture (the verticals and symmetry here were wonderful), but lacks the spontaneity of the images from the smaller cameras. A mixture of soft-core pornography and hard-core science fiction at the Sant Antoni Sunday book market, Barcelona.
It is getting too hot here, and it seems like we have jumped straight from winter in to mid-summer.
Street art, Barcelona.
Dynamic hair…
Fruit stand with giant melons (well, sandías), Carrer de la Riera Alta, Barcelona.
Disconcertingly cheerful butcher’s delivery alongside a meat carcass, Carrer de Jerusalem (La Boqueria), Barcelona.

Two women chatting and smoking near the Boqueria, Carrer de la Petxina, Barcelona. One of the odd things about photographing Barcelona is how similar some of these images are to those taken in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Depending on your perspective, a sport, an art-form or the scourge of the streets (particularly at 1am, when the boards make an incredibly loud sound that seems to resonate between the buildings). Joaquin Costa, Barcelona.
School run with bicycle and greyhound. Carrer Ferlandina, Barcelona.
Early morning workers waiting for a delivery, La Rambla, Barcelona.
Posters for the anarcho-syndicalist CNT alongside a shopper, Barcelona. Spain still retains an odd tension between a strong grass-roots socialist perspective and increasingly right-wing parties, such as the current PP – a direct descendent of Franco’s fascist regime.
