Postcards from Seoul

A final set of images from Seoul, documenting architecture and scenes around the mega city. These span from Incheon in the West down to Hanam in the East and were shot over several months of walks in the city and its surroundings.

All images were shot with the GFX100s, mostly using the 55mm lens and a polariser to bring out the colour on saturated surfaces. The camera worked really well despite frequently damp conditions, and although weight was frequently an issue switching from a cross-shoulder strap to a waist belt with holster helped a lot.

Processing used PhotoLab 8.1 with a processing based on FilmPack’s Kodachrome emulation, which gives a look that I really like.

I should write more about PL8, as, contrary to the usual internet sceptics, it is a meaningful upgrade from PL7, not least for the improvements to the curves tool which finally sports a well implemented Luma Curve option. The new lens sharpness and DeepPrime XDs processing are stunning, although the final processing can be a tad slow – rendering the 94 JPEGs for this post took a whopping 2 hours and 10 minutes on a pretty high specification M1 Max computer. And there is finally an image compare tool option that allows you to compare two different images.

For me personally, the image compare and luma curve changes fix two major pain points when using PL, and justify the upgrade. That said, none of the limitations of the organiser (catalogue) have been addressed, and the undo handling remains utterly broken.
